The application of gears is an important factor across many industries. Delta Dynamics specializes in catering to many different fields through our gear design services. As an industrial gear manufacturer, we have served industries such as: oil and gas, mining, forestry, pulp and paper, oil sands, manufacturing, steel, and printing (for example, Kodak). Each field uses the application of gears differently to manufacture their products. These industries rely heavily on the use of large machinery so the application of gears is extremely important.

Gear Analysis

Using gear analysis, we review every drawing and provide design and production assistance and accurate geometry calculations. We provide “fill in the blank” design expertise, and function as an extension to your design team and machine shop by analyzing gear stress, gear vibration, and gear failure.

The Client provided us with a drawing stating that "accurate geometry calculations have to be performed by the gear manufacturer."

We started a dialogue with the client and gathered all information on the fit, form, and function of the part. The next step in our gear analysis process involved the completion of all geometry calculations. 

 
We offered our expertise in all aspects of the final design, including material selection, heat treatment process selection, and detailed gear design. Our experience allows us to inform our clients about gear stress analysis, gear vibration analysis, and gear failure analysis. 

Delta Dynamics provided the design requiring detailed specifications on the helix angle, pressure angle, and profile modifications. 

The final result was a high quality part that exceeded the customer's original specifications and expectations, manufactured from an effectively modified design with advanced gear design specifications.

DESIGN COLLABORATION & "FILL IN THE BLANK" ASSISTANCE
CLIENT REQUEST

A client requested for an external involute spline to be cut in a blank shaft. The client provided a drawing with specifications, but the specifications did not offer the internal spline clearance data. 

DELTA DYNAMICS DESIGN COLLABORATION

We helped the client by analyzing the design and drawing, confirming by re-calculation all dimensions given, and calculating those specifications which were missing.


The most often referenced DIN 5482 specifications refer to a nominal tooth thickness, but does not offer internal spline CLEARANCE data, or take into account manufacturing tolerances.

Delta Dynamics used spline analysis and calculated the required clearance data. We consulted with the client to determine the necessary tolerances. Our efforts to consult with clients throughout the analysis process keeps them in tune with our development. This minimizes and eliminates potential errors and allows our clients to receive the part that they need.  

 

This image shows the area of the internal spline. We completed the drawing with the spline clearance and manufacturing tolerance specifications. This is an excellent example of how closely we pay attention to fine detail to deliver the best possible product to you. 

We offered other design changes that would enhance this already well-designed gear set. All design revisions were accepted by the client and a final part was produced that wholly satisfied the client’s requirements.

Step 4 - Customer Testing

If needed, the fourth step,customer feedback is the most important step. Receiving valuable feedback from customers allows for minor revisions that will produce a perfected product.

Step 3 - Manufacturing Process

I the third stage of this prototype, we work out the manufacturing details. As the prototype is assembled, importment manufacturing feedback will be gathered. This will prevent expensive production and manufacturing changes down the road.
